yet another compelling reason to go to eado

yet another compelling reason to go to eado

Hello friends.  I hope everyone's week is going wonderfully so far.  It has come to my attention that my last several posts might have possibly featured an excessive amount of pointless personal anecdotes / comments about New Hampshire / extremely unfocused nonsense.  So I'll try to keep this short and to the point, with extra pictures.  Plus Gerrit Cole is pitching right now, so if we're being totally honest, this is really not receiving my full attention.

I have to admit, even though I've spoken highly about some of the cool new/newish stuff going on in (still very stupidly named) EaDo several times before, I wasn't 100% sold on the neighborhood as a whole.  It just needed one or two more truly original places to really make it a destination.

I am sold now.

Just across the street from 8th Wonder and next door to Rodeo Goat (both of which were featured in the Sunday Funday post) is brand-new bar Truck Yard.  I begrudgingly report that, like Rodeo Goat, it is a Dallas-based establishment...but I still loved it.  And the decor is clearly very Houston.

Truck Yard has been open for less than two weeks, so it's only a matter of time before every other #basic Houston blogger posts the same exact Instagram photo of their drink strategically placed in front of that sketchy-looking Ferris wheel (you can't actually ride it; you'd probably die).  For the record, I WAS FIRST!  At least, I'm telling myself I was.

We made the short walk over here after watching the Astros defeat the Rangers on a beautiful Sunday afternoon, hence the attire.  I know what y'all are thinking...why isn't Royce in any of these photos?!  Did I go on a blogger adventure without him!?  Does Liz have more than one friend?!

No...he refused to appear in any of these (obviously totally candid) photos on account of a bet he lost which involved him having to wear some Astros attire that even I have to admit was pretty tacky, complete with a WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS drawstring backpack and a foam finger.  (I actually had nothing to do with the bet, but I found the whole thing incredibly entertaining.)  He did take these pics of me and my cool friends Paige and Elizabeth though.  ALSO, how cute is this tank I got from runninggameclothing.com?!?  (I know that sounded like an ad but...come on now.  I'm not enough of a big deal to have sponsors.  I'm just legitimately obsessed with this site.  It's also where I bought my orange Crush City shirt from.)

Okay, now for the drinks!  Decent beer selection, and several cocktails on tap.  I was a huge fan of the Gin & Juice.  There was also a Mexican Coffee beverage that I will definitely need to try whenever I return.

Over to the side there are three rotating food trucks - I had a pretty good burger from one of them, and the ever-popular Waffle Bus also happened to be an option on this particular day.  While you wait on your food (they actually give you buzzers instead of calling out numbers/making you wait next to the truck...GAME CHANGER), you can play some free Skee-ball!  (Skee-ball is great for Boomerangs...you know you were thinking it...)

One of the great things about these warehouse-y EaDo establishments (Tout Suite, 8th Wonder, Rodeo Goat, Lucky's, Secret Group, etc.) is that they are all hugeeeeee.  Just look at all that seating!  Oh...and there is PARKING.  GLORIOUS FREE PARKING all around the area.

Climb up to the second floor (I think this balcony is made out of shipping containers) for downtown views, people watching, or to look off into the distance introspectively.

Over the course of just a few short years, I've watched EaDo quickly transform from NEVER EVER GO THERE to ALL THE COOL STUFF IS OVER THERE.  Truck Yard and/or 8th Wonder are ideal for pre- and/or post-Astros game drinking (or just Sunday Funday, or really any other time).  The Secret Group hosts local comedians that are actually hilarious (at least they were the time I went).  My love of Tout Suite is already sufficiently documented on this blog, I think.  Rodeo Goat is one of the best new Houston restaurants, and I hear that even more new restaurants are in the works!  Stay tuned...I'll be there to report as soon as they open.  I do all of this for you, loyal readers.

Jk.  Y'all know this blog is just an extremely time-consuming way for me to justify to myself how much money I spend on coffee and beer, right?
