drinking outside in eado

Do you remember the last time we had this many consecutive days of absolutely beautiful weather in Houston?  I do not.  Because I don't think this has ever happened in my twenty-five and a half years on this earth.  In a wonderful coincidence, the week of the greatest Houston weather of all time just so happened to fall during my least busy time of the year at work, so I've been able to take full advantage and "work from home" (i.e. work from various coffee shop patios) for like, the past twelve days.  Unfortunately, I can't share ALL of the riveting material I've gathered from said coffee shops with you right now...because I am already running out of places to cover and this blog will be over in about three weeks at the rate I've been going.  But I will show you these fun new(ish) spots we found over in EaDo!

P.S. Go follow my friend Royce (@_reezydoesit) on Instagram.  His captions are much wittier than mine.

This cute little coffee shop and brunch spot just opened last month at the corner of Leeland and Hutchins St.; it's the sister restaurant to Around the Corner (more on that one in a minute).  It's RIGHT next to the "semi-sketchy random weird mural area" I referred to in a previous post, and just three blocks south of 8th Wonder Brewery, where I'm told the "We Heart Houston" sign has just been relocated to.  So you could start here and plan a seriously Instagram-worthy day (don't judge me...I know deep down y'all are all just as basic as I am).  Anyway.  Verdict: coffee was fine, not great (free refills though!).  Didn't try the food, but there were plenty of options available to order.  WiFi was fast.  We sat on the porch, obviously, due to the aforementioned fantastic weather.  Overall, I would recommend this place as a chill spot to meet up with friends for breakfast, and it's also a solid option for productivity.  If the weather happens to be nice enough to enjoy the adorable patio, that's even better!  It closes at 2 PM though, so around 1:30 we decided to migrate next door...

Around the Corner

How many times can I make the TPS reports joke before it stops being funny?  Or did that stop being funny in 2002?  Actually, I don't care."So did you finish those TPS reports or...?"

Maybe I was just in a particularly great mood that day, but I was obsessed with this bar from the second I walked in.  It looks like a cozy little house!  The inside is open to the front porch, and there is outdoor seating on the back patio as well.  We grabbed some beers (Saint Arnold Spring Bock for the first day of spring - new favorite) and an order of chips and queso which we pretty much inhaled.  The menu also featured quite a few fun cocktails (full disclosure: the pink drink I'm holding was actually ordered by our friend/amazing favorite photographer Joanna, but I had to borrow it because it looks better in pictures...a lot of thought goes into being this embarrassingly basic, y'all).  Also, if for some reason you are attempting to get work done here, I can confirm that the WiFi works great, and there is even a plug located conveniently next to the bar.  I think the bartenders were judging us pretty hard when Joanna arrived and started taking pictures of us casually pretending to work on my laptop at the bar next to our not-at-all staged food and drinks...and if that wasn't enough, they were DEFINITELY judging us when we started moving around to get pictures from every possible angle.  But you gotta do what you gotta do, right?  How else could I show y'all the adorable patio with the string lights, plus the inside with the nifty light fixtures!?  Anyway, I seem to have gone off on a weird tangent about lights, but this has been a very roundabout way of saying that Around the Corner is a great little bar over in EaDo, and an ideal spot to enjoy this weather!  Plus it'll look pretty great on your Insta story.  Again, don't judge me.  You know you were thinking it.

THIS QUESO WAS SO GOOD.

Awkward fake date number one of about twelve this week.  This one doesn't seem to be going well.
