coffee for astronauts?!
Friends! I have not graced the interwebs with my flawless prose in TWENTY days. But during my absence, I HAVE attended five Astros games and one non-Astros game, spent a day in Austin and a day in Boston, finally got status with United, saw the no-longer-blue water at Galveston, participated in a mud volleyball tournament, waited in line in 95 degree weather for a Top 50 BBQ joint (worth it), attempted (and ALMOST succeeded at) wake surfing, went to a free concert (thank you @_reezydoesit!), attended a wedding, a proposal, and a graduation, and, of course, spent almost exactly half of those twenty days in lovely New Hampshire. I even started a draft of a blog post at one point, but it got weird and emotional and softball-related, and I don't think you want to read that.
I hope you can forgive me. I have been slightly busy. Multiple coworkers have told me I looked stressed out this week. The valet guy at the hotel this morning told me I looked lost. Is resting distressed face a thing? What is going on with me!?
But never fear! I somehow found time to go to a new(ish) coffee shop in Houston!
Giant Leap Cofffee
EaDo
Rolled in here around 10 AM on a Sunday with every intention of getting some work done. I did not get much work done. That's not to say this place isn't conducive to productivity; it definitely is! I was just not feeling very motivated, and was pretty preoccupied with making sure I snapped the perfect totally-non-staged picture for this blog post. The things I do for y'all...being an amateur blogger who apparently only gets around to posting every three weeks is exhausting work.
Some thoughts...
- This place has been open since January and no one had told me about it until last week?! How could I let this happen!?
- The location is interesting. It's in EaDo right by Moontower.
- Love the name...Giant Leap...because Houston...and astronauts...get it...? Everything in the shop, down to the stools, is spaceship themed. It's fantastic. Unlike many coffee shops that are inexplicably dark, this one is bright and industrial (in a good way).
- Coffee was good (ordered drip coffee, black, as per uje). They brew coffee from local roaster Amaya.
- There's beer and food too! I had a yogurt parfait, but was tempted by a sign advertising breakfast tacos. Unfortunately, it has come to my attention that my diet of beer and bar food in New Hampshire 3ish nights a week is "bad for me," so I was trying to "eat [slightly] healthier" last weekend. Ugh.
- There's not a ton of seating - I believe there were 3 tables, the bar area, and another bar by the window.
- The wifi was fast, it was quiet, and it definitely makes my list of coffee shops for productivity. The fact that I got nothing done when I was there only speaks to my complete lack of motivation on that particular day.
Check out Giant Leap next time you're in the area! Or go out of your way to get there, because this probably isn't a location you're likely to just happen upon (unless you're heading to Moontower, which you should be, because that place is awesome and has really good hot dogs).
Stay tuned for some more short posts about my various adventures over the past few months. And for a (pretty close to exhaustive) guide to Portsmouth, New Hampshire, that I PROMISE really is in the works. I have dined at an establishment called The Thirsty Moose six times in the past eleven weeks, just to give you an idea of what you're in for here.
Have a super fantastic week everyone! And I don't want to hear complaints from any of you about the weather in Houston; it's 50s and perpetually raining here in NH. Maybe that's why I look like I'm in constant distress. See you this weekend, Houston friends.
