soccer?
This is a little off-brand for me. When I was five years old, I participated in a YMCA soccer league in which I scored one goal all season (it was for the opposing team so I don't think that counts). This marked the end of my soccer career, and twenty-one years later I still harbor a possibly unwarranted dislike for the entire concept of soccer.
But I have to admit...the World Cup is pretty exciting, and I'm always a fan of watching sports with friends in a fun environment. So when I heard about this new soccer-themed bar called Pitch 25 in EaDo (apparently the only neighborhood I talk about on this blog anymore), I put aside my issues with the sport and decided to check it out. I was impressed. I liked this bar so much I MIGHT even consider altering my entire stance on soccer. Possibly.
Also - (according to Google, because clearly this was not something I knew off the top of my head) there are still three weeks remaining in the World Cup! If you are looking for somewhere to watch a match (see, I'm learning soccer terminology...I'm really trying!), this is going to be your best bet.
Like pretty much every bar, restaurant, and coffee shop in EaDo, this place is HUGE. Indoor area with seating for dayssssss, and a patio that's almost as big as the inside. In what should come as no surprise to anyone who knows me, my favorite feature is the "BE SOMEONE" sign replica (pre-"vandalism"). There are full bars both inside and outside, and SOOOOOOOO many beer options, most of them from local breweries, which I always appreciate. There is also a relatively small food menu; we ordered a giant pile of french fries. They were pretty great.
I'm told that this pitch (another soccer word!) is sometimes open for people to, I guess, play soccer? I once received a snapchat from a friend of drunk people attempting to kick, so I was a little disappointed that I didn't get to witness that on the day I went. There was also cornhole, shuffleboard, and arcade games.
I don't think you could find a spot in this place without a view of a television if you tried. Admittedly, I know very little about when soccer is in season, but presumably other sports will be shown on said televisions when soccer is not being played. I visited before an Astros game (it's easily within walking distance of Minute Maid) and right after a World Cup match had ended, so everyone there (the place was PACKED) was in either soccer or baseball apparel. When the Astros make it back to the playoffs this October, this will be a perfect watch party spot.
I promise there will be more Astros and/or coffee-related content coming soon. But in the meantime, I can't recommend Pitch 25 enough!
