celebrating national coffee day at blacksmith.

celebrating national coffee day at blacksmith.

Apparently, today is #NationalCoffeeDay.  Sounds completely arbitrary and made up to me, but it's a great excuse to go to one of my favorite coffee shops and take pictures of my latte.  Which, admittedly, is what I was planning on doing today regardless...so this made up holiday actually has no impact on my life whatsoever.

For today's coffee adventure, I opted for Blacksmith, a classic and reliable Houston establishment located in the Montrose area.  Features include exposed brick, menu on a chalkboard, baristas in hipster glasses, a small patio, industrial-looking light fixtures, and tiny plants in mason jars.  Typical trendy coffee shop stuff.  But the coffee (Greenway) is fantastic, and the food is above average as well.  I ordered a vanilla latte (I usually don't go for the sugary coffee beverages anymore but #treatyoself for #nationalcoffeeday right?) and the 'Cold Turkey' Torta for a late lunch.  The place was relatively empty on a Friday around 2 (I promise I actually have a job; this will be my last weekday afternoon coffee post until like, next summer), so I was able to camp out and work on this blog post for a while (FYI: wifi password is BISCUITS).  This is an ideal spot to meet up with friends for breakfast or a light lunch (at least I assume...I'm just chillin' here by myself right now and I'm pretty content with it).  And as an added bonus, Blacksmith has its own parking lot!  (Stressing out about traffic and parking runs in my family, so this may not be as much of a selling point for you as it is for me).  Bottom line: easily a top 5 Houston coffee shop.  Highly recommended.

I haven't quite mastered the art of taking good pictures for this blog in public places without looking like a creeper, but I tried my best here.
